Can Mammograms Show Cancer When Ultrasounds Don't?
I had a mammogram and MRI in July and it was normal. Two weeks ago i had an ultrasound and it was normal but the radiologist recommended a mammogram of the left breast for further evaluation (lumpectomy 12/17, followed by radiation)
Mammograms can show microcalcifications, which aren't picked up by ultrasound. These are usually benign, though less frequently they can indicate DCIS or invasive cancer.
I have CT scans every 3 months. My Onc said I didnt need to have Mammos on my remaining breast, because the scans would show any problems, but it was left up to me to decide and I decided to do it anyway just as a second opinion.
Had mammogram and all is normal!
@A MyBCTeam Member: after my treatment was done I figured I'd only be doing MRI's from now on, since my initial mammogram was totally clear despite having 3 tumours (one almost 4cm). But by onc believes I should alternate mammos and MRI every 6 months - he says mammos sometimes pick up dcis better than the MRI. I'm still not totally sure I buy that but I figure the more scans, the merrier - plus I only have only have one boob now so the mammo is only half as bad 🤣
Is There Any Type Of Imaging That Is Certain To Show Cancer? Mammograms And MRI Didn't Show It. Only Surgery Revealed It.
