Does Anyone Know What “parasternal Changes” Means On An MRI Report?
My doctor has just started releasing the notes from my appointments and I noticed in his notes he has written “parasternal changes” with regard to my MRIs over the last couple of years. I don’t have a follow up with him until April, at which point I will definitely ask him what this means. In the meantime does anyone here know?
Parasternal is next to your sternum. I am guessing there is a change in formation since your last test. I would call Dr. tomorrow and have them explain it to you. Sorry I wasn't much help. Good Luck
I emphasise with your concerns about unintelligible medical speak especially with odd bodily responses ongoing to the treatment you’ve had. Every time I’ve queried “what does that word mean?” my current surgeon has apologised, explained in plain English and said these were all frequently seen responses to treatment given and there was nothing to worry about. Hugs to you!
@A MyBCTeam Member Hey there! Thanks for your response! To answer your question about my MRIs, they have not been screening MRIs. Since my surgeries in 2018 I have had many lumps and bumps pop up, and my surgeon always orders an MRI to be sure it’s nothing. Most times it has been fat necrosis, and the last two lumps that I have they can’t find on any scans. So the best guess is that it is scar tissue or a popped suture. I also have an area above my right implant that looks almost swollen. It’s puffy and weird looking and doesn’t match the left side at all. At first I thought it was related to the implant, but plastics says no. So then my oncologist ordered an MRI (nothing showed up) and then just recently my onco surgeon ordered another one, to double check. Nothing. So there’s the reasoning behind my multiple scans since my surgeries! 💗
Tlpaul. I'd say if the doctor thought it was of concern he would have raised it with you and ordered further testing. BUT, that said, there is no reason for you to have that nagging worry hanging over your head until April, so I would contact him and ask for an explanation, which will most probably be reassuring. Also, curious as to whether you are getting screening MRIs despite having a bilateral mastectomy. My providers have all been adamant that I don't need any regular imaging unless they detect something on clinical exam or I have symptoms.
@A MyBCTeam Member Thanks for your answer, it’s reassuring to hear your thoughts 💗
