I Have A Crazy Mail Question?

Is it ok to wear nail polish during chemo. My nails are real and I paint them often. Is this recommended or not recommend during chemo? I have heard that your nails can be damaged and change during chemo ???

They didn't tell me anything about nail polish, but when you look it up on-line etc it seems tht the chemicals are bad. Now that I'm on Letrazol though my nails are weakening again and I have vertical ridges and one is split even though i take Vit D and minerals etc. sigh

My nails were very affected when I was on Taxotere. I had 6 rounds of it and by the end I had 6 horizontal ridges across each nail. They got very thin and fragile and I had to keep them trimmed to the edges of the nail beds so they wouldn't break and they needed something on them to protect and strengthen them. My beautician recommended Sally Hansen Nail Rehab that I got at Wal-Mart. Then I could use any color of nail polish on top of that and then Seche Vive top coat that I got at the salon. My fingernails are stronger now that all the affected nails have grown out, but not as strong as before chemo. I still need to keep them pretty short so they don't break. Toenails take longer to recover. Mine are still not quite back to normal but they're getting closer! Best of luck to you on your chemo journey!! Hugs and prayers!!
