Quality Vs. Quantity.Has Anyone Chosen To Stop The Post Treatment Meds Due To Side Effects?

Have any of you stopped taking your meds due to debilitating side effects? How did your oncologist receive it?Would they still support you?
I have a check up this week and I’m planning on stopping my AI, not sure about my chemo pills.

I was on Tamoxifen for two years. I had terrible side affects, I tried to deal with it for a long time. The joint pain was somewhat tolerable but vaginal dryness and bleeding came along and I could hardly sit down without a blanket or sheet. My oncologist tried to cut the dose but it didn't help at all. This January she said I didn't have to take it anymore. My breast cancer was 1 st stage caused by estrogen I was on, Dr said only 2% chance of recurrence. I do feel much better.

I am hoping you can find a way to continue treatment, as we know it is the best way to prevent recurrence. That said, you have to do what is best for you. Express your concerns with your oncologist. If he/she cannot respect your choice and still support you, Might not be the doctor for you.
Wishing you well!

G’morning! I’m trying to remember . First tumor was Invasive Ductal carcinoma, Level 1A ER/PR+ HER2+. When they did the bilateral mastectomy, they found DCIS on the other side.
The second local reoccurrence was Level 1b ER/PR+ Her2-. A different type! That’s why I’m on Verzenio. I’d be on an AI either way.

I’m taking anastrozole and I really don’t have any side effects, except for achy knees, and I walk it off. I guess it affects people in many different ways. Right now I’m lucky. Doing a lot of walking seems to “lubricate” the bones for me.
