What To Expect During Chemo
I have my 1st chemo treatment tomorrow and am looking for info on what to expect, both during and after. I haven't met with my chemo nurse yet so any input would be appreciated..
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate!! Before, during and after chemo!!
Just checking in on you- hoping everything went well, and you are enjoying a leisurely dinner before heading off to bed! Hugs!
I meet the nurse at time of visit I guess. I seem to not have fallen through the cracks but have been pushed that way. After leaving my surgeons care and on to the Medical Onocologist which I had serious issues with I have had to battle really hard to get a new Dr. There has been some obvious confusion as to what's been done and what hasn't. I'm trying to believe it's just confusion in passing on information and not a personal vendetta for the e-mail I sent to the head of the department. I didn't want to do that but you ladies helped me realize I deserve better and to fight for just that...I thank every one of you for that...
Hugs and prayers ..your Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator should have given you information on what to expect before your first treatment...It wasn't that bad for me..actually I tolerated it pretty well..I just kept a positive attitude and that is what got me through it...everybody is different but if you are feeling uneasy about ANYTHING please let your oncology team know...that's what they are getting paid for..lol
Totally agree with Laura's post. For most of us, the experience turns out not to be as bad as what our imaginations were preparing us for. I slept through the first few hours of my first session. Between restless nights leading up to that day, and the Benedryl- I was out! My chemo day breakfast was scrambled eggs, a nice light protein to stick with me, since our center does not have meals. I packed some snacks- they had snacks there, but I wanted to make sure I had things I wanted easily accessible. Hydrate!! You want those drugs swished around and out of you. Side effects always were more noticeable when I slacked off on my water. I liked bringing Gin-Gin candies to suck on, as ginger is a natural tummy soother, and the candy helped offset the weird taste I would get with one of the drugs.
I am looking forward to your post that everything went well, the nurses were awesome, and that you are home resting comfortably!! Hugs!
