Stage 1, No Spread- Did You Still Need Chemo?
I just got my pathology results from my lumpectomy. I feel so grateful that it did not spread (lymph nodes and all that were clear) and margins were clean. It will be two weeks until I get my oncotype score. They couldn’t tell me if this means no chemo. I’m 37, with a 6 and 2 year old, and it’s the one last piece of the puzzle for me. I am stage 2A, no spread to lymph nodes. I am on round 1 of chemo. I will also have radiation. My cancer is HER2 positive.
I had stage 0 then upgraded to stage 1 after my mastectomy because they found other suspicious cells. Turns out I have triple positive, which are aggressive and invasive cells that can spread anywhere and fast. I have just finished my 3rd round of chemo (which luckily targets those cells) and will be doing Tx every three weeks for the next year. They are calling it preventative. No evidence of cancer anywhere else right now, which is good.
Hoping right along with you that you can skip the chemo- but, if it does turn out that you need it, please know that for most of us, the experience was not as bad as what our imaginations were preparing us for. Tight hugs!
KellyCunha It’s just a test, there are no guarantees, my oncotype score was 22, I was feeling good about it, until I went back for my yearly mammogram and wound up with a small tumor in my other breast, no lymph node involvement on either side, so my doctor told me it’s just bad luck. Prayers for you, can’t keep worrying about it, just live your life, loving those kids. God bless!
