Stage 4 & NED ?
I read a lot in women's stories that have Stage 4 & NED, can someone explain how there is NED when stage 4 means the Breast cancer has metastasized and not curable?
@A MyBCTeam Member I love your attitude! I feel the same way. I trust my doctor and medical team with my life, so I don't have to worry about what to do or not do next. I've been so afraid to live my life, afraid if I made the wrong choices it would cut my life shorter. I'm not going to live in fear! I want the rest of my life to be happy and peaceful. I'm so glad you are doing well too! Stable is great!! Let's live our best life with God's blessings and the love of friends and family!! God bless you my friend!πβ€οΈπππ»
@A MyBCTeam Member I know it sounds confusing. In my situation I was diagnosed with stage IV Metastatic breast cancer to both lungs and lower spine and pelvis in the beginning. After a year of monthly zometa infusions, taking Letrozole and Ibrance, the letrozole stopped working after 19 months and she saw my tumor markers going up. She immediately put me on Faslodex shots. After getting my CT scans and Bone scans every 3months my bone scan shows No Evidence of cancer, no lesions. So I guess you could say my bone cancer is in remission (for now), I still have tumors in both lungs but they continue to slowly shrink a little at a time, my breast mass is stable ( not growing). My oncologist told me the longer my bones don't show any lesions, it may not come back there. It's been 9 months so far! She said we will ride this wave as long as we can.πππ€ It's only showing up as degenerative arthritis in the scans right now. I can live with that!!!
@A MyBCTeam Member Surgery has never been an option for me. My Pulmonologist quit counting tumors after finding over 20 in each lung. They are still in there but I can at least breathe better now they have shrunk a little. I use Trelogy, an inhaler with 3 medications in it to help me breathe. It's good stuff!ππ I'm glad my doctor didn't put me through surgery. Her course of treatment for me has been spot-on!
@A MyBCTeam Member Yes, because my breast cancer is in my lungs and it's inoperable. Hopefully it won't show up anywhere else! Stage4 is known to involve lungs, liver, bones, brain mostly. I've been lucky that there's no new tumors showing up. They are currently watching my liver. I've got some cysts but they've been there since the beginning of my diagnosis, just sitting there, doing nothing. My doctor is monitoring it. I consider my bones NED a miracle. My oncologist is quite amazed, she didn't think it was possible in my case. Who knows.. maybe the Lord Will throw down another miracle!! This is why I fight for my life and go through the side effects of treatment. Anything is possible when you have faith and a great doctor and medical team!
@A MyBCTeam Member - Congrats you are in such a stable state. That is awesome and cause for celebrationπ Thanks for the explanation, too. Like Barbara, I have wondered that exact same thing. Thank you, Barbara, for asking this question.
It's very confusing trying to understand the many levels this road can go. My last scan showed some activity that I thought was not good but my doctor says it's okay and I'm doing well. I think the docs look for certain results with a different eye than the patient. I'm living with stage IV metastatic disease and yet, "I'm doing well" and it's not spreading yet some areas are showing increase, some show decrease. Some notations on the results look suspicious to me but are okay with the doctor. The patient knows their body, the oncologist knows the path and severity of the disease. I'm going to keep living and enjoying life, let the confusion go and let my doctor determine what steps to explore on this road. π
