Does The Neuropathy ( In Our Feet) From Chemo Last For Years?
I was told that whatever neuropathy I had at 6 months post chemo was my new normal- baloney!! Apparently my nerves can procrastinate as well as the rest of me- lol! It continued to improve, well after the 6 month mark. I finished chemo in June 2019, my feet hurt so bad by June, I considered retiring, I just could not take the concrete floors in the school all day. I decided I would give it the summer, and see. By September (15 months) it was so much better. Then by the time winter rolled around, it was mostly my fingertips and toes. Eventually, it stopped improving, and I am left with just a bit of numbness at the tips of my fingers and toes. Hang in there!
I have had chemo twice and wore special socks that held ice packs in them and tried to keep my hands cold too. My neuropathy eventually went away. The second time I had chemo, I did nothing and I ended up with no neuropathy in my feet but I still have it somewhat in my fingertips. I just finished last December so this might go away as it did before. Everyone is different and the kind of chemo you get will also depend on your outcome. Ask your oncologist what they recommend. Hope this helps.
Thanks!
