Different Types Of Radiation
I have a consult with Radiation Oncology on Monday. I am wanting people’s experience with radiation treatment. I have another pre-cancer condition that causes fatigue & anemia so concerned about that. I am also fair skinned so burn easily.
My dx is IDC Stage 1a Grade 2 HER2 positive hormone receptor negative. Lymph node is negative.
Traditional
Brachytherapy (internal)
Proton Beam
I know each person is unique but interested. The side effects, length of treatment, and type.
I am going to the MAYO Clinic to have PROTON Radation for 3 days in a row .....
I had full breast Radation in 2003 I burned a bit then and used Lavender oil mixed with Aloe Gel and it healed so well......
I had 24 treatments to my right breast. My energy was fine. As noted above, moisturize beginning now and continue throughout! Use Galaxal as it is a heavy cream. I also kept saline solution in the fridge and post session I wet a cheese cloth with the solution to cool my chest. I did have burns as radiation was on the breast and upper chest. Friends who have had it lower or for less than 20 sessions make out fine moisturizing and using saline solution. Wishing you all the best!
I had traditional I think I had 24 treatments I went on my lunch hour from work, so energy was ok, I did end up with burning and blistering. If you can opt for brachy that might be a better option. I wasn't offered that 15 years ago.
I had traditional radiation to L breast in 2012. I don't remember number of treatments but I only had a minor burn. I think my energy was pretty good because I was able to work. No other problems that I can recall.

Hi Everyone, I Have A Question On Options Of Radiation Treatments.
Has Anyone Gone Through The 5 Treatment Partial Breast Irradiation? Is It Easier Or Harder Than Doing Whole Breast Radiation Over 16 Weeks?
