This was helpful. I would like to hear from some in the group about their individual experiences as well.

Hello! Deciding between DIEP flap surgery and implants for breast reconstruction post-mastectomy is indeed a significant decision. Here are some points to consider based on the DIEP flap procedure:

1. **Natural Appearance**: DIEP flap surgery often results in a more natural look since it uses your own tissue.
2. **Recovery**: The recovery from DIEP flap surgery is generally considered easier compared to some other procedures like the TRAM flap, which involves muscle removal.
3. **Sensation**: There's a potential for more natural sensation in the breast as the tissue used is your own and blood flow is reconnected.
4. **Lifestyle Adaptability**: Changes in body weight might be less of an issue with DIEP flap reconstructions compared to implants.

It's crucial to consult with your doctor to discuss your specific circumstances, including your health history and personal preferences, to determine the best option for you. They can also help you connect with a qualified plastic surgeon who specializes in these procedures.

I had my DIEP Flap 3/26/24, Im happy with the outcome and recovery is not as bad as I expected🙄. Help was needed getting in and out of bed, showering, and unfortunately with bathroom use. I experienced some tightness in the abdominal area and above the breast. As I move into the 4th post op wk, Im going to start walking as the weather gets warm. I was skeptical on my decision based on the recovery time. I believe the infections made me realize the implants might not have been a good choice for me. There were a few cons I had toward the implants based on lifestyle. I am due to have some revisions done May 7th. I hope this helps with your decision. It all depends on what works best for you❤️!
