How Long After A Mastectomy Is Done Do They Start Your Radiation.? And How Long Are You Down From Surgery?
Having surgery in 5 days. And the anticipation is going crazy. Nervous, Ansy, scared, all wrapped in one.
I had the single mastectomy, flat closure, no radiation. My surgeon was willing to let me go back to work at 4-5 weeks but the oncologist would not sign off on it. He wanted me to have two chemos in first (spaced 3 weeks apart) to see how my body reacted. Since I did not have anything major going on- he signed off at the 8 week mark. But I felt ready to go back weeks before!
As far as me being home after surgery- I still dressed myself, cooked, washed dishes, did laundry, I was just easily tired, so lots of breaks in-between. In the days leading up to surgery I had already given the house a major clean, cooked some things ahead, did all the grocery shopping and errands- including getting any Rx's filled- as I knew I would not be driving for awhile. I also picked up foods that could be made quickly, and take-out menus!
All those prep things kept me busy so I did not have as much time to dwell on things. Keeping you in prayers! Hugs!
After a mastectomy, the timing for starting radiation therapy can vary based on individual treatment plans. Generally, radiation therapy is recommended if:
- The tumor was larger than five centimeters
- Cancer cells were found in one or more lymph nodes.
- The surgeon could not create a clear margin of healthy tissue Show Full Answer
