I had double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using DIEP flap, nipple sparing. My surgeon told me that I’ll feel like I was hit by a truck - was expecting the worst. But it wasn’t bad at all - don’t remember taking any pain meds, except Tylenol couple of times. I realized I didn’t really feel anything because all my nerves were dead!
It’s been 11 months since my surgery. My breasts are still numb and center part of my abdomen is also numb - feels funky but I look great!🤗

It's common to experience numbness in your breast or nipples after a mastectomy, even if you have a nipple-sparing mastectomy. Sensations may improve as nerves regrow, but some numbness can be permanent. Sensations may come and go and can take months or years to subside.

It takes a while for the nerves to regenerate, and the skin across the area of the mastectomy has sensation, as does my armpit- though the armpit is not as sensitive as pre-op, so I keep a close eye while shaving, etc. Hugs!

I had a right only mastectomy and they removed one lymph node 11 weeks ago yesterday. (not nipple sparing) After surgery I was very sore but not really in pain. You ever have a bandage on and move but the bandage doesn't move with you? That's kind of what if felt like at times. Right now it sometimes feels like I'm wearing a big bandage but there's nothing there. Plastic Surgeon called it phantom pain. Since it doesn't hurt, I'm fine with that. It's just weird! Sometimes I got to scratch around my armpit and it feels a little numb for awhile. I've said it many times but I expected a horrible ordeal and it wasn't. But I haven't had reconstructive surgery yet! I keep going back and forth on that. I want it, I don't, etc. But the plan is for next year.

I'm four months in from a double mastectomy, feeling has come back somewhat, takes about a year for nerves to heal.
