Social Security Admin Offices Working Only By Appointment

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Just sharing- This past week, I went online to request a replacement SS card. But, their system was down. I thought I would take a chance and drive over to a local office in the county. As expected, I was greeted by the security officer who asked if I had an appt. When I answered that I did not, I was handed a paper that said our SS office was only doing things by appt. There was a phone number to call. I asked if I could call from the empty lobby (where he was) and was informed no one without… read more

I had a online message from SSA. I already had set up my account but went to log on and retrieve my messages. I had difficulty logging into the site. Finally got through and checked it. They were already sending info about how much the cost of living increase would be for me each month and if there were any deductions. When it is up and running it's very helpful.

Yes, I would encourage everyone to set up their online accts if they have not already. Mine was already set up, but their system was down.

I had been contacted the day before about getting on the sub list for my old school, so I could train some new hires for 1:1 positions. I had offered to volunteer my time, but the school system said I would have to be paid to do this.

And since they only approve subs once a month. getting the SS card was an immediate need. Fortunately, when I ran out of places to check at home- I went to the bank and it was in the Safety Deposit Box- whew! Crisis averted! The school board meets Tuesday night- even a new card would not make it in time- but I hoped that someone could print off something that showed it was in the works- and just maybe that would have been acceptable.

This is what happens when we are raised in disfunctional, stressful situations- Gotta have a Plan A, B, and C! (at least!)

you can go to https://www.ssa.gov and make an account. Once you set it up you can get a new card and see all your information. Good Luck🥰

I'm sharing some info about Social Security about appointments. I got this info from AARP Bulletin that I get from my membership with them. The Social Security Administration has lost more than 10,000 workers since 2010 ,the number of Americans it serves has risen by more than 13 million according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. First be prepared, know when to call. Mondays and the days after holidays are a bad time. Calling on a Friday and in the morning the best time and day.
Also check alternative locations to make an in person visit. Try a suburban areas.

@A MyBCTeam Member I just checked what the PartB will cost. It's now $174.70, but will increase to $185.00 for 2025, a $10.30 increase. So they will take back about a third of that $35 COL. Sad,sad, sad!!!
