Do You Still Get Your Period On Tamoxifen?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

For those of you that have taken or are currently taking Tamoxifen, did you still get your period? Mine stopped during chemo and they told me once I started Tamoxifen it probably wouldn’t come back. (I started Tamoxifen October 2024) I started spotting this morning, I plan to reach out to my oncologist on Monday and see what she says but just wondering if this is normal? Thank you!

Hi Melissa, I started taking Tamoxifen in October 2023 just after having radiation treatment. The first month or two was spottting & then went back to monthly, around the same time & much shorter. My oncologist mentioned that if I do get my period, it should be much milder which I do not mind at all. Hopefully there is nothing wrong & your body is just readjusting after changes.

Spotting after starting tamoxifen is not uncommon, but it’s important to inform your oncologist, as changes in bleeding can sometimes indicate uterine changes. It’s good that you plan to reach out to your doctor for further guidance.
