What Kind Of Clothing Should Be Worn During Radiation Treatments?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had read somewhere that all natural fiber clothing needed to be worn during radiation treatments. Is this true? Just need to know if I have to buy some clothes.

During radiation treatments, it's best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, especially around the treatment area. Cotton is a great choice because it's breathable and gentle on sensitive skin. Avoid tight or synthetic fabrics that may irritate the skin. If you don't wear a bra, you can use a soft cotton cloth under your breasts to prevent rubbing. There's no strict rule about all-natural fibers, but comfort and breathability are key.

I wore regular clothes. The room was a little chilly and I had to remove my top half clothing, so I wore thicker pants and socks. Also, I made sure my top half was a soft , loose material that would not chafe afterwards until I could get home and switch to comfy PJs. I went straight from work as a teacher each day, so I had to make a good clothing choice that would suffice for work and the treatment. My team never mentioned any specific clothing material concerns.

Thank you for your perspective. You’re a true warrior. Going through all of this while teaching. I taught SPED in a public school for 20 years. It takes a lot out of you when you’re healthy. Best of everything to you!
