Breast Answers With Alloderm - One-Step

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Temecula, CA

I was diagnosed with DCIS and LCIS - both stage zero in september 2011. Fortunately I had a double mastectomy in December 2011 where they found a very very small stage one tumor. I had implants but in immediately during my mastectomy using alloderm. I would really like to talk with others who have had this procedure. My doctor said it was a very new procedure and I have many questions regarding my healing process. It has been almost a year and many women who had the tissue expanders seem to… read more

Alloderm has been used for nearly 10 years already so I wouldn't say it's a new procedure. All surgeons that I know about, are using it. I had it done and have had no problems, nor discomfort other than the norm post-surgical discomfort. I never had expanders either and went straight to implants too. Are u still having discomfort?

Nanhaus - thanks for your reply - I don't have pain - just always uncomfortable - like I'm being squished in a mammogram machine or wearing a way too tight bra - all the time. I haven't talked with anyone else who has had this type of reconstruction, so I don't know what is normal. And I still have difficulty with certain movements like sweeping or swimming. Would you be willing to talk sometime? I so, can you e-mail me at [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators) with your phone number and a good time to call. Thanks again.

I had a double mastectomy on January 27, 2014 with immediate breast reconstruction with a expander. Doctor filled the expander up some what during surgery. After that I went in every week or two to get breast fills. The day of the breast fill did not hurt, but later that day my breast would get tight. Pain was doable, so no pain meds. Its been 4 months of breast fills and now I am waiting 6 weeks for them to settle and have the exchange surgery. Most nights I slept in a recliner. I could not stand the feeling when I would lay down and the breast would go under my arm. I normally wore a tight work out bra that buttoned up the front. Now I can go with a tight camaseol a few days then back to the tight bra. Breast are hard as a rock now. Looking forward to the exchange on or around June 10th.

This past August I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with tissue expanders & Alloderm. I have been going in for weekly expander fills and have had very little pain and no problems.

@A MyBCTeam Member, thanks for the info. The breast surgeon had told me early on that I could have a second surgery to make them look better if I had any problems, especially because I had the radiation. Typically they don't radiate after implants but they were so sure there was no cancer in my lymp nodes that we went forward with it. They found small cells in lymph node so radiation was my best bet. I won't go back for surgery for cosmetic reasons, only if there is pain that I can't tolerate. I am honestly fine with the way they look!
