My Chemo Was Canceled Because My White Blood Cell Count Was Very Low.
I have been fighting an ear infection, sore throat, and stomach bug the past few days. Now I am on two types of antibiotics.
I've always thought that when you body is fighting an infection it causes your white blood count to go up, not down.
I just had a CBC blood test done & it is showing my white blood count is very low -- too low for my body to be able to tolerate chemo.
This seems weird to me. What causes the white blood cells to become so low?
Has anyone else dealt with this?
Chemo and radiation kill cells! This is not medical advice, but I can say as a nutritionist and holistic practitioner,...I would , no matter what ANYONE tells you..start building your immune system with raw juicing, get off eggs and dairy, take probiotics while you are on the antibiotics to replace the good flora your body needs to fight off disease.(you can find them at any whole foods market) Otherwise all the good and bad are burned up and the cancer can go hog wild. DON"T whatever you do, eat sugar! Cancer feeds off sugar! take greens every day! drink Ginger Kombucha. Watch your diet! start studying about natural foods! Get the good information on Coconut oil. The virgin Raw cold pressed kind, not the others. Do whatever you can now while you are waiting to improve your end result! Study Qi gong or Tai Chi and Yoga for balance~
Best wishes and Blessings to you!

Neulasta is worse than the chemo for me. My oncologist is going to let me try skipping it next time, so fingers crossed!
My white cell count dropped every time I had chemo. I received neurlasta injection the day after chemo to build up cell count.
All of us! Chemo kills cells, cancer cells, white cell, platelets. Some chemo is harder on platelets than others actually, but the white cells are the first to go. And they ( neutrophils)help you mount a fever response when you are sick. So, without your neutrophils, your ability to fight infection is impaired. They do come back, with time and that is why they monitor our "counts" to look at the neutrophils..if we have not recovered our neutrophils in between cycles, they will wait on TAC or reduce the dose.
