Has anyone else been put on Tamoxifen with low receptors? My Oncologist assures me I will benefit. I just wish I had more receptors..

Sounds like the support group really wasn't a support group. Or at least not a positive group, you are so right it was time for you to leave. I do love this site it does have alot of support!

I think a lot of it is attitude too. I have been on tamoxifen for 4 months. I had to go off Zoloft to start the tamoxifen. I started seriously exercising to combat the side effects I've heard of with tamoxifen - tired, weight gain, joint pain, etc. Exercise also helps relieve depression too. My onc. asked if I had joint pain, fatigue, etc. and offered to put me on a different antidepressant. I said NO. Sure I have joint pain and am tired, but I choose to blame it on the exercise, and it's manageable. Another benefit from exercise - I've lost 14 lbs. and my clothes are loose. And I do have more energy. I try to exercise at least 4 days a week for 40 minutes. It's helping me.

I've been on Tamoxifen for 18 months. The hot flashes were awful for the first 6 months but have leveled off. I do have joint pain in my ankles and knees and am tired. Also, I have gained a lot of weight in my stomach middle area. It's embarrassing, I look pregnant. I've always been a thin person so the weight issue bothers me the most. The way I look at it is that it is a small price to pay if it does indeed keep me from getting cancer again.

exercise has been what has helped me the most- regaining the muscle I lost and lose the weight I gained during chemo. helps me sleep better, less anxiety. Also just having some time pass since finished chemo. I spent alot of time going thru chemo, and decided to invest similiar time into exercise to get stronger and heal. Start out slow walking, stretch, I have a Cancer Support Community place near me that offers free yoga, tai chi, and other activities, which was a good starting place.
