When Do You First Experience The Negative Effects After. Chemotherapy
I just began chemo 2 weeks ago. Carboplatin every 4 weeks and taxol weekly. I dont know if this is the traditional regimen for breast cancer. Anyway, so far the side effects have been minimal and my body has been responsive. Initially everyone said chemo would be terrible and to be ready. Another stated, well you're just at week two. I know every day isn't going to be a breeze. But I truly don't know what to think or expect and I would like real life answers... Help me bc team! please.
I had 8 weeks of adriamyacin / cytoxan followed by 12 weeks of taxol / herceptin & I never got sick. I was not even nauseous. I did get blisters on my feet & slight neuropathy from taxol. You might never have anything but minimal side effects. I was talking to one of my chemo nurses last week & she said most people have minimal side effects. They even work during chemo. In my opinion, I think you hear about the people who have bad sides effects from chemo, but you don't hear from the ones with minimal side effects. The best advice I was given is to stay on top of the side effects. Take any meds they give you when you are suppose to take them even of you don't think you need them. Also, drink plenty of fluids & keep your potassium level up .
Regarding bone and joint pain - start taking Claritin (yes the allergy medicine). One of my nurses recommended it. I thought it was weird but then read somewhere about a connection between histine and bone pain. Try it - worked great for me.
Everyone is different. I barely had side effects. The only side effects was when I started taxol, my injection the next day was achyness like flu but other than that I never got sick. Probably from steroids.
Thank you! I hope so. I don't care for too many changes...
It has been 1 1/2 years since chemo and I still have problems, most of which will never go away. Numbness and tingling in toes and fingers, (Nuerotin helps with that). Most of mine is constant pain from 4 surgeries and the damaged tissue from the radiation, which they tell me will never go away, but may subside a bit with the help of drugs.
