I don’t regret not having reconstructive surgery, I have a great support team at church and I feel good with my decision.

I had my surgery 13 years ago. I had a radical mastectomy with 24 lymph nodes removed on my left side after they thought a lumpectomy would do the job, My cancer was much more advanced than it appeared with scans and MRIs. They then wanted me to begin chemo therapy right away and forego reconstruction until treatments were complete. By the time I was done, I just wanted to be done and not go through that process. I discussed it with my husband and he was OK with that. I just wanted to be my new normal whatever that was. I am not sorry. Sometimes finding a bathing suit is challenging as that is tight fitting and sometimes, my old breast sags more than my prosthesis, but I have tweaked it and no one knows any different. I am 62. I am 76. My surgeon said reconstruction does not work well for women my age, so didn't offer at time of mastectomy.
