Taxol Treatment Better Than AC

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Will be starting Taxol next month, just finished AC. Can I expect better results, less side effects?

Hi. I started Taxol 3 weeks ago after finishing AC. I've heard that everybody's experience can be different, but the Taxol has been better for me as far as side effects go. With the AC, I had constant nausea and fatigue. With Taxol, I don't have the nausea or fatigue, but I do get bone and muscle aches. Also with Taxol, you have to watch out for neuropathy. Luckily, I haven't experienced that. Good luck!

Taxol was a breeze for me compared to AC. I bet you sail right through. I took 3 GRAMS of l-glutamine 3 x a day that I bought at GNC to prevent neuropathy. I had runny nose ( due to no nose hair) tiny constant bloody nose, and these weird bubble things in my nails that had to grow out where part lifted off nail bed. I did not lose any nails. They do get wavy lines in them and are yellowish with the taxol in my case. Hair started growing in halfway through.

UPDATE: Unfortunately I had allergic reaction to Taxol 5min in 2nd tx. I had itching and leg swelling after first tx, full blown reaction with second. My sister noticed weird changes and chemo team stopped. I was then put on Taxotere with radiation which ended Feb. 21. Of course I am extreme exception!

I had more trouble with the Taxol. I was just as tired, but after my 2nd dose I had an infusion reaction so I had to take high dose dex 12 and 6 hours before chemo, plus all the predrugs. All the dex raised my blood sugar high enough I had to take insulin for 3 days starting the night before chemo. I also developed neuropathy. I was able to finish my treatments, but they had to cut the dose in half for the last 3 treatments. Everybody reacts differently to the drugs. I had little to no side effects from the AC, except for bone deep fatigue and deep bone pain, esp. after the Neulasta.
