Port Replacement

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Sahuarita, AZ

I've had my port for 2 months. It is on the left side. Although it flushes well and successfully infuses my chemo treatments, it does not give a blood return. My doctor determined that it is kinked and must be replaced. Has anyone else had theirs replaced? Did the replaced port work as promised? How long did you keep it after chemotherapy concluded?

I have my port still in, did my last chemo 1-3-2013. My port does not give any blood either when sitting up. Lying down it does.

My arm port became infected right before 2 nd treatment. They immediately took it out and then I had a chest port put in. That one worked like a charm. Mine came out right after I finished chemo.

I'm sorry you are having this issue with the port, I hope that the replacement procedure goes well, and that you can soon resume your treatment. Gentle hugs!

I am sorry! Fortunately, I only had one. It was removed during my breast surgery.
Wishing you well!

I had my port replaced first one was in Jan 2020 and then replaced Jan 2024. My placement works wonderful and isn't as sensitive or painful as the first one. My doctor says I will have it for at least a year AFTER my last treatment, I m still currently getting treatment. But the first one had gotten removed August of 2023 and that was a year after last treatment first time around.
