For me it took a few months. My Dr. suggested paper plates, cups and plastic utensils because, for me ,the only taste I had was metallic. Also smoothies and frozen fruit shakes helped me very much. Hope this is helpful.

Hello,

Yes Kathleen is correct it does take a few months for taste buds to return to normal. During chemo everything tasted terrible especially water. I had to force myself to drink water. I started putting fresh lemon in my water to help me.

Cells turn over every 30 days so shouldn't be too long before you are tasting yummy foods again. The longest part for me were handling spicy foods again....for me, that takes forever!!!

I found that eating a little square of dark chocolate got rid of the metal taste and food tasted OK again. Not great.. but better than metal. :-)

I seem to be rare. I didn't have too much of a distaste during chemo. The one thing that I loved and couldn't stomach was oatmeal. I used to have oatmeal with cinammon, raisins and apples ever morning and now..even 3 months after chemo..the thought of it sickens me! I also didn't want any kind of soupy meal...stews, soups anything like that...ughhh! One thing, though, the smell of the chemo chemicals seemed to come out of my pores. Once I got on the taxol (spelling?), the smell left. As others have said, hang in there. You can do it.
