Tamoxifen

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I started taking Tamoxifen yesterday. I had been on Arimidex for 3 years, and Aromasin for 3 months. I suffered from aches too much from AIs but my oncologist didn't want me to stop taking Hormone medicines. So, he put me on Tamoxifen to see if I could tolerate better. He told me I can take the medicine twice a day or just take once. (I mean both ways make the same dosage for a day.) I take mornings and nights but if it doesn't matter, once a day will be easier. Does anyone do that? Just… read more

I take it once a day at night? I am having cramping and stomach issues but I think it is more from dehydration than from tamoxifen or maybe a combo of the two

Hi @A MyBCTeam Member! It's been awhile. I was having hard time with tamoxifen at 1st. I was tired all day long so I took 10 mg in the morning and 10 mg at night. After 2-3 months I switched to 20 mg in the morning.
From what I've heard, tamoxifen is easier on joint pain so I'm going to stick with it for a couple of more years before I switched to something else.
Good luck with your scan! I'm sure everything will be just fine 😊

I started out taking 20 mgs once per day, but was having bad mood swings so my onc reduced me to 10 mgs. She now has me taken 10 mgs twice a day. I was told they sometimes have you take smaller doses twice a day when your are adjusting to the meds or increasing your dosage. I think after another month, I will be switching to 20 mgs once a day.

Yes leg cramps and also stomach and intestinal cramping as well, though the last few days since getting rehydrated have been a huge difference. I am still in radiation and just finished treatment eleven. I am trying to run and train for a race during radiation as well, simply because it is one thing that gives me peace and I can give my worries a rest during all this scary stuff. Sometimes it has been hard to know if it is the treatment or Tamoxifen that is giving me whatever side effect I am experiencing.
