Oopherectomy And Tamoxifen

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

For the ladies who've had an oopherectomy and on tamoxifen, what, if anything does your gyn do monitor whether your uterine lining is thickening? Mine said they don't do any ultrasounds or anything, and hat women bleed if something is going wrong.

Hi there. My understanding about tamoxifen is that it can cause slight proliferation of the lining of the uterus putting women at 2 to 3 times higher risk of endometrial cancer than the general public. The concerns with the screening methods now in use are that their results ( endometrial thickening) do not correlate well with disease so routine screening not recommended. The recommendation is to monitor closely for ANY vaginal bleeding, spotting or staining and follow up
Immediately for assessment.

Just saw my gyn this week and he will be doing another ultrasound in October due to increased endometriel lining .. He's also done endometriel biopsy too . I think they just keep you under a careful watch while on this crazy tamoxofien :{{
