I am premenopausal started tamoxifen had bad menopause like symptoms. I have been off it for a month and now not sure what my next step is:

I was told that one of my best options is to
Get an oophorectomy and start on an AI vs return to tamoxifen because we dont know if I am in menopause and the risk of no protection for 3-12 months to confirm is to great.
Will my menopausal side effects BE WORSE than what they are now if I have surgery and start an AI?
Which AI do you suggest if I were to go… read more

I tried Tamoxifen and it was awful. Have decided with my GYN and oncologist to have an oophorectomy. I got a Lupron shot on 3/31 and just started Aromasin 2 days ago. My surgery is scheduled for 5/13. I don't know what my risk of recurrence is, but I think that being HER-2+ increases risk.

@A MyBCTeam Member Thank you for posting this reply. I too am a quitter! i agree, chemo, mast, herceptin and perjeta....and 1% chance with ALL those SE's I was having? Quality of life is more important. My husband total agrees.

I quit tamoxifen. Side effects were awful. I was 45 and premenopausal - that was 6 years ago and I'm still premenopausal and still NED. My oncologist told me that after mastectomy and chemo and Herceptin Tamoxifen only offered me an additional 1% benefit. Not worth it to me.

@A MyBCTeam Member, just instant menopause. For me, it's been constant hot flashes and increased anxiety. I'm taking Lexapro and seeing a counselor. Effexor also helps with hot flashes, but it's not a good drug for me. The surgery itself was pretty easy. I went back to work after 6 days.

@A MyBCTeam Member, Tamoxifen wasn't my friend. Made me really depressed and anxious. I only did it for a few weeks.
