Alergy To Steri-Strips

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

has anyone else developed an alergic reacion to steri-strips? I have weaping sores at , near, around my incision, pretty much where the steri strips are. since my inicion (5days post-op) hasn't fully closed, I'm hesitant to pull the strips off. the sores hurt more than itch.
This is so frustrating because it hasn't happened with the previous surgeries, also closed with steri strips.

I am allergic to adhesives on band aids, tape, etc... and had problems with steri strips used after my biopsies. For my surgery they painted something on my skin prior to placing the strips and tape which protected it from contact with the adhesive.

I became allergic to all non paper adhesives after chemo treatments 15 yrs ago and still to this day am unable to tolerate them. It was so bad after my last reconstruction surgery 8 yrs ago, that I had huge blisters and the doctor had to remove them and use paper tape and I had to wear an ace bandage to keep the tape on! Good luck, call your dr and go see him. These can lead to infections which u don't want at this time! (Or any other time as well). Lynn

I am still on a steroid cream to clear up my horrible itchy, blistering rash from the Steri Strips. 3 weeks post BMX today! My recovery would have been soooo much better had they not used them as instructed in the first place. Call your dr now and get the strips removed! I still have hives all overt arms and cannot figure out what's causing them. Feel better soon.

I had a reaction to the steri-strip after my last reconstruction surgery in May. I never had a problem with them in the past. My PS removed the steri-strip, me some ointment to apply & it cleared up.

Yes, I developed this problem as well. Paper tape is ok but does not always hold well. Ask about a blue tape, I think it is a silicone tape, also used to help with scaring later. It is more expensive, so they may not always be forthcoming with it, but it saved me during my reconstruction!
