After Mastectomy, How Long Did It Take For Your Steri Strips To Come Off?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My SM was 8/22 and drain came out on 9/6. Supposingly you can drive after the drain is out. When I tried I have pain across my incision site and don’t feel comfortable driving. I am thinking the steri strips might be contributing to this. When did your steri strips finally come off.

The hospital gave me a soft heart shaped pillow to put on my chest or under my armpit for driving so the safety belt doesn't rub. And I keep doing stretching exercises to keep the incision loose. Good luck

I am allergic to Steri-Strips, so I had paper tape, everywhere! For driving, my surgeon said that when I was comfortable with my reflexes not causing pain, I would be good to go. I was running late and thinking about if that day was the day I could drive myself- while trying to manipulate the lite-weight foam boob in the bra pocket- and it shot up into the air! I was able to catch it with my left hand, mastectomy side! Stuffed in the pocket, grabbed my keys- and thanked God for the sign that I was good to hit the highways!! Hope you feel comfortable and ready, soon! Happy Motoring!

Mine took about 3 weeks. They're annoying but don't pull them - let them come off in their own time πŸ’•

After a mastectomy, the steri strips typically come off within one to two weeks. This is around the same time when drainage tubes are usually removed. Always follow your surgeon's specific instructions for wound care and monitor for any signs of infection.
