Did Anyone Choose Not To Have Reconstruction?

Count my in for the happy flat club! I wear a Genie bra with $24 breast shapers from Amazon in the pocket during the day at work and throw them in the drawer as soon as I get home. I also couldn't face more surgery. Occasionally I look at my stomach and think,"hmm that fat may look better up top," but still not worth the time, effort, pain, and risk for me. It is a very personal decision, but I've grown accustomed to the light feeling and my new body. At first I thought I get decorated with tatoos, but I'm over that as well. In fact, strange as it may seem I'm probably more comfortable with my body than I can remember.

I had my bmx Nov 2014 and after much research I decided no recon. I made a pro/con list, too. A few pros were: never wear a bra again, I can be a runner, no under boob sweat. I have not regretted the decision, my scars and area continue to change and look/feel more normal every day. I love to exercise and hated the thought of weakening another part of my body. I had DD before and I have wonderful memories of nursing my children.
My husband is very supportive and tells me I'm even sexier now. Do your research, best wishes, there's no right or wrong choice.

I am 44 and fed my babies for a total of 4 years with my breasts but I have no problem getting both of them removed and not having reconstructive surgery. I know I am a woman and do not need breasts to feel like one. I would feel less comfortable having fake breasts. I look forward to running and sleeping and driving down bumpy roads and climbing stairs without breasts! And I will be able to fill a bra to whatever size looks best in the top I choose to wear each day... I will not feel at all "deformed" without breasts. I will be proud that I survived breast cancer everytime I look at my scars (and that I no longer have to have mamograms like you do with fake ones!).

Hi JennA, yes I decided against reconstruction. I just couldn't get a "peace" about it. I have heard from too many women who have had more problems with recon. than with the cancer. I am almost 2 years out, and have just started looking into some "bras".

@A MyBCTeam Member - I am two years out from my BMX today and am very pleased with my decision to remain flat. never felt deformed, abnormal or less feminine without my boobs.
