People Keep Questioning Me For Having Reconstruction. They Keep Saying As Long As Cancer/ Breasts Are Gone Reconstruction Is Not Important.

People keep questioning me for having reconstruction. They just keep saying as long as the cancer/ breasts are gone reconstruction is not important. I feel attacked by people and relatives judging me for having reconstruction. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I once told a very opinionated person that once they go through poison for 20 weeks, additional target treatment for a year, body parts chopped off, lose all your hair, eyelashes and eyebrows, when you think it’s a good day because you didn’t almost poop your pants then they could comment on what is best for me. 😂😂😂. They never mentioned it again. You do whatever the heck you want. 💕

Yes, I had a quite a few who questioned my reconstruction and my choices. Why would I want to put myself through added surgeries blah, blah, blah would be there rant...

But as Said before me , people really don’t know what they would do until faced with it themselves.

I chose what was right for me and my husband ( which for the record said he supported me in what ever I chose he loved me for me, the person , the wife ,the mother and grandmother I was not my Boobs).

What people need to understand is there reasoning is not the persons next to them reasoning, Everyone is different physically and emotionally and come to there decisions after diagnosis from a wide range of past, present and futures.

I reconstructed because I wanted boobs point blank . Not perfect boobs, not big boobs, I have had them since I was teenager, didn’t want them because of the man in my life either, he’s been in my life since high school. Just wanted to be me and can say I had a great PS who did a great job giving me what worked for my body and had no complications and I feel and look great.

What people need to understand it is our body , our cancer, our decision, whether we reconstruct or decide to stay flat.

Ugh!!! I’m so sorry!! It reallllly pisses me off that some people think they have any say in this. I didn’t get it quite as much as you but my sisters (close in age but older than me) made it clear that they wouldnt go through reconstruction - almost like it was a superficial thing. But. What people dont understand is. They dont really KNOW what they would do if they were in our situation - because once it happens to you all bets are off and only THEN can you really understand the depth of it all. I chose to do what felt right to me - which was reconstruct. And I dont regret it. And. Looking back at any time in my life where others opinions shaped my decisions - they are the decisions I ended up regretting. Stay strong. You arent alone. Sending you love 💗💜💗

There’s an emotional and psychological aspect of healing in addition to the physical. If having reconstruction will help you with this as well, then that’s your choice and nobody else’s.
I had immediate reconstruction, and while not ideal, I can look at myself in the mirror and see some normalcy that has helped.
Fortunately, nobody questioned my decision and I had the most supportive people in my life. I’m sorry you have not been provided the same. Quite frankly, it’s nobody’s business. I would politely tell people that it’s between you and your doctor and it’s part of the healing process for you.
Hugs!

Michelle, try not to pay attention to what others think you should do. It is your body, your decision and you're the one who will live with it, not them. I know it's difficult to "laugh it off" but try to just feel sorry for them for not being adult enough to respect your decision.
