Preparations for surgery fall into 2 categories: medical and comfort. Do these before surgery because afterwards you won't be able to!

Remember it is ok and even smart to ask for help. 9 months out and I can't open some plastic bags, jars or water bottles. Someone is always willing to help.

Plan ahead! If you have anything on a shelf above your head that you think you will need bring it down a couple of shelves. You may have trouble (discomfort)lifting your arms up. I underwent a reduction in 5/09 and took my experience from that to my BMX in 6/14. Keep moving though, you don't want to suffer from frozen shoulder. Even though it might hurt, stretch. Walk your arms up the wall to stretch. Check with your surgeon for physical therapy.

My plastic surgeon had to use cadaver derma with my surgery so I had two drains on each side. She also gave me a numbing medicine that came in a fanny pack and had tubes that lead to the incision site. I used the fanny pack to hang my drains from at all times. It worked pretty well. Have a friend sign you up for "take them a meal". It was such a blessing with having three kids to feed. I think we all put on weight though with all the wonderful food. I am 4.5 weeks out from my surgery and sleeping is still hard! :)

I got a wedge and body pillow! Stock up on gauze bandages and tape! I was tough for 7-10 days. You will get through this time! Hugs and prayers for you!
