Arimidex Side Wffects

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a question for those of you on arimidex or any hormone blocker. My onc. Told me yesterday that she wants me to take arimidex. I researched all of the side effects. My question is, are the bad effects caused from the drug itself, or just from the lack of estrogen in the body? Trying to make an informed decision soon.

I don't have that answer but based on many comments here, some people have better luck (less side effects) with one AI vs another. I take letrozole and had hip and leg pain (pretty bad) but it got much better after 6 months. I also have hot flashes but I had those since chemo. I also have NOT gained weight. Best of luck with your decision.

Well I was on Arimidex for a year, could not take it anymore. Now some people are ok on it, as for me the side effects were absolutely brutal. I became an angry, mean person and because of the numerous side effects I no longer have my girls in my life. They did not like the person I became and told me when I was off the drug to contact them. I am on tamoxifen now and do find it somewhat better than arimidex however depending on your cancer the doctor prescribes accordingly. I was told by my oncologist that if I went off the arimidex I would up my chances of recurrence and he could not promise me it would not come back however I wanted quality of life over quantity the side effects for me were that horrible. So I went off of it and am now on tamoxifen. BTW I still don't have my kids in my life, I figure if they can't handle me at my worst then they sure as hell don't deserve me at my best....... I sure didn't give up on them when they were teenagers and I didn't like there attitudes...... good luck on your decision..... and survival....

I've been taking Arimidex since November as well as getting Lupron injections bi-monthly... The only side effects are hot flashes and some vaginal dryness. No weight gain or any other pains.
