Low Platelets
My platelets dropped to 73 so they postponed chemo today. Are there any things I can do to raise that number over 100. I get new labs next Monday.
A friend of mine has low platelets all the time due to ITP. We did some research for her and found that Papaya leaf tea can help. Obviously, you'd have to clear that with your oncologist but maybe worth a try:-)
Platelets aka white blood cell count. There are many things you can do to improve this but anything you choose should be discussed with your doc first.
I'm predisposed to have failed the count given my RA, however I was practiced before chemo in taking methotrexate (a chemo drug) for my RA. I already had a regimen in place.
I take Folic Acid and D3 daily. I never went below the white count and kept my nails going strong too :)
During chemo, I also started making sure I ate plenty of strawberries, blackberries etc.... vitamin C things as well.
You can see online what contributes to increasing white blood cells. Zinc for example (also in Folic Acid).
Don't be hard on yourself though, if you can't do it naturally then get a transfusion and don't feel bad about it.
Much love! xoxoxo
@A MyBCTeam Member - agreed!
@A MyBCTeam Member I carry a notebook with all my questions in it. Otherwise I will forget to ask. I hate it when you tell them all your side effects and your numbers come back low and they don't tell you how to fix it.
Good - it's always important to go with questions. I just sent an email to the onc's nurse to tell her how bad I feel and wanting to know what her plans are for future treatments
