Any Premenopausal Woman Has Chosen To Get Ovaries Removed?
I'm 36 and had a double mastectomy. Part of my treatment plan is to have my ovaries removed. Has anyone done this and if so what are your side effects?
@A MyBCTeam Member Sorry for so many responses, but the last one is that the other alternative to removing your ovaries if you want an aromatase inhibitor is to get that shot -- not sure what it's called or the frequency -- that basically neutralizes your ovaries while you're on an AI. At least these were the choices two years ago -- hopefully your doctor has or will go over all of the current options with you. Good luck deciding!
I've had no side effects from oopherectomy. It lets me take aromatase inhibitors. Effects from that are regular effects of not having estrogen, i.e., menopause.
Oh I didn't mention weight gain. Okay so I see it in the mirror and on the scale but live in denial.
@A MyBCTeam Member - the loss of estrogen can weaken connective tissue.
@SarahLeslie - I had my ovaries out because my side effects from Tamoxifen were so bad. I am now not on anything...my choice.
Had an oophorectomy. My gynomrecommended it since I am BRACA2 positive. I can't definitively say that I had any side effects. I had to be switched from tamoxifen to anastrozole after the surgery.
