Reconstructed Breast Is Wider Than Natural Breast
I feel like I constantly have something under my armpit. My reconstructed breast is much wider than my normal breast. I think because it is a round implant. I can't seem to find much information on anatomically correct implants, but I would think they would look more natural. I am different sizes because the unaffected breast has more projection, but the implant is wider... any advice on anatomically correct implants or going smaller on both sides. I don't care about the size. Actually I would… read more
Hmmmmm. ...... mine are also round and not the more natural "slope" type. I've had no concerns and the implants are smaller than I was previously. If you are not comfortable, your reconstruction surgeon should be happy to redo. Also, if it's less than a year, you may want to give yourself a bit more time for all swelling and extra fluids to go away.
Oh my goodness! I haven't logged in for a long time. Please do share. I am so uncomfortable and I am done with the plastic surgeons in Alaska. I hope you log on again. I also have a failed hip replacement that was done in May 2015 and I've been dealing with that. Turns out I am allergic to one of the metals and need to have it redone....arrrgghhh. But, it is a new year and I am trying to focus on my health and being positive. Happy New Years!
I don't know where you are located, but I have an excellent recommendation for a PS in Dallas. He is absolutely amazing. I travelled from The northeast to Dallas for my exchange surgery and it was worth it!
Hi there! !! Yes you're very tiny and slim so I can imagine the implants feel awkward .. . I'm in Calgary (Canada) and my plastic doc is amazing. Like you I had 5 surgeries .... the L breast had to be redone as the internal stitches on chest muscle split and the implant was pushing thru ..... not painful didn't feel a thing. ... I was just sagging on that side! Ask others on here for recommendations for plastic surgeons if they are in your area. You can also check your provincial or state Board for names of qualified surgeons. And for sure continue to advocate for yourself. .... my surgeon and I discussed implant size in depth prior to my surgery. It's YOUR body and you get to say what happens to it!! Good luck and hang in there!
Hello :) Thank You for your advice on waiting awhile. Even if I keep the size I have I have one more surgery and I told them I want a break. After 5 surgeries in one year (including the mastectomy and then immediate construction that went bad...lost a lot of skin and I think the implant was too big - the doctor actually joked about how hard it was to get it in there. I hadn't even told her to use the bigger size - I had actually told her a smaller size but she weighed all my breast tissue after it was removed, including from under my armpit, etc.) I would never do immediate reconstruction again. I lost a full hand of skin. I don't think the implant was ever secure...just glad I didn't get infected. Anyways, I am taking a break, but we have kayaks and I went to my sons yesterday and took them and I felt very cumbersome. I'm 5'2 and 125 pounds and right now I would just like to go small on both sizes because otherwise it ends up in my armpit. I'm getting to where I'm okay with a hole just for comfort. But I need to find a truly good reconstructive surgeon... Thanks again for your comments and if you know of any doctors please let me know. Where do you live? How are you doing? Good I hope. Jeannette
