All Hair Do You Lose

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Besides being told I will lose all my hair by second treatment of AC-T, do you lose hair every where else?? Does it grow back same texture, thickness etc?

I had written by 2nd chemo treatment (last Feb), my head was shaved, and I did like it... always had thick straight blonde hair... end of May was last chemo ... by July fuzz started coming in... I now have a thick head of CURLY ASH BROWN hair??? Never had a color close to this Before, but I figure if god wants me to have ash brown hair for my 2nd act, so be it... no Gray and I’m going to be 73. I never lost eyebrows (transparent color Always) eyelashes fell out, came back a little, but eyes run like I’m crying, and then nothing... and nose hairs still not in, runs, drips, really classy... so be prepared for any and everything...
and be thankful to be complaining...

My hair, which had been in a sleek bob for years started to fall out 2 days after first dose of Docetaxal. It was falling out in large clumps & getting everywhere so shaved the rest off . To be honest it didn’t bother me , I had other things to worry about. Did get a wig but sent back , not for me ! It was actually easy having no hair , not having to style every day, lol 😆. Also was cool during the summer, wore bandana’s & headscarf’s , mainly to protect my head from the sun ☀️.
It has grown back within a year , at first was curly , which was quite cute as never had a single curl in my life ! Another few months & it will be back at bob length, curls have gone now as the weight has taken them out . 55 yrs old & grown back dark brown & not one grey hair !
It is really thick, but the texture is strange feels like dolls hair & when I wash it feels like it’s water resistant ? Have had it cut about every 5/6 weeks since it’s grown as just goes out of control. When styled looks nice & everyone comments on how thick & fast it’s grown. Others hairs on my body have mostly not grown back , very sparse eyelashes & eyebrows just have a little bit so have to pencil in each day, which just melts off as soon as I have a hot flush 😡. Asked Oncologist if I could have them tattooed or micro- bladed but NO as I’m on treatment for life 😞 . Any suggestions of a stay put eyebrow pencil or similar would be very much appreciated , many thanks, hope this info has been useful ? X X X

Why the electric razor for legs and underarms. Well, you dont immediately lose the hair on your legs and underarms. It’s all gradual. I think the leg hair took a month or so. Also, was advised to to use a blade razor to shave my head, to use an electric sheer. When we are going through chemo, it’s harder to heal a nick or cut from a blade . We don’t want to open ourselves up to an infection. My stylist used a #1 when she shaved my head. So it was bald but not completely to the scalp—and eventually that comes out too.

I had hair that was about shoulder length, so I cut it in a really short bob prior to chemo, just to make the hair loss less stressful.

I keep my hair shirt now - and love it! Rocking the pixie! Lol,,

Mine is 6 months in and it is growing back brown and curly. But I think its because its growing all at once and it has no weight on it-its too short. The texture is odd and it feels course, but I am going to start coloring my hair back to blonde and my hair stylest said that would change the texture.

I went through AC-T almost 20 years ago. I lost the hair on my head after my second AC treatment. Gradually I lost hair over my entire body including eyelashes and eyebrows (by the second Taxol treatment).

Before chemo I has a lot of hair under my arms and on my legs. Now I get a few hairs under my arms and virtually none on my legs. Arm hairs are lighter and unfortunately chin hairs are still there :)

My head hair came back thick and curly and very gray. It took about 6 months after my last chemo for me to feel comfortable not wearing a wig. The first time I dyed it with my normal color it turned a bright orange!!! Since I have aged (I am 70) I have noticed is getting thinner but I don't think that has had anything to do with the chemo. I wear it long and have added an extension to add thickness (but not length).

I drew in eyebrows and lined my eyes so it wasn't real noticeable unless you were looking at me real close. Eyebrows and eyelashes grew back pretty quickly and did not seem to suffer from the chemo. My eyelashes were really beautiful and full but over time they have reverted to just ok. Eyebrows are the same as before chemo.

Bikini area is had usual regrowth. Just like the facial hair, this is another spot I wish I had no regrowth!!

There is a light at the end of the chemo tunnel. Losing your hair is very preferable to losing you life!!! Don't despair--it will grow back and this time in your life will eventually be an uncomfortable memory but also one of survival!!!

Also--chemo dries out your skin big time. I was turned onto Cetaphil which I use to this day. I buy the big jar at Walmart for about $12 and use it all over including my face.
