I am done with chemo/radiation and plan on going back on some vitamins. My Oncologist seems fine and I have read different things about vitamins and breast cancer. I did not take any=except D-which was recommended , during active treatment . I am now on Herceptin every 3 weeks, till October and Anastrozole for 5 years.
please let me know your thoughts/experiences . I am really curious about Tumeric

Just started taking turmeric supplements, seems to help with joint pain from Anastrozole. Have been on Anastrozole 8 months out. I also wear arthritis gloves to bed because joint pain is mainly from my hands. Working well so far, have stopped taking ibuprofen bc I don’t care to take any meds unless they are prescribed.

I put turmeric in my smoothie every day, along with black pepper, Amla powder, Ceylon cinnamon and ginger. All boosts the immune system.

500 mg calcium also because it helps protect your bones while on Anastrazole. But ask your onco because you're still on Herceptin. Many women take tart cherry tablets to help with AI pain. I haven't found it makes much of a difference for me. I also take biotin (for hair, again, not sure it helps. If you take biotin you need to stop it a few days before certain blood tests, like thyroid tests and estrogen tests, because it can throw those off). And I take Omega 3, as recommended by my onco nutritionist; but I don't eat fish, so I get Omega 3 via supplements. Finally, i take Magnesium Glycinate 400 mg to help w/ sleep & migraines and Melatonin 2mg extended release (Refresh brand, the others give me headaches) to help w sleep. Run any supplement or vitamin by your docs. My oncologist doesn't seem that knowledgeable about supplements, but hopefully she's aware of any red flags.
And, if your center has an onco nutritionist, make an appt w/ him/her. My onco nutritionist said turmeric is OK in food form (as a seasoning), but avoid supplements. That's also true for soy and phytoestrogenic herbs. The supplements are too concentrated, as are soy burgers, soy protein drinks etc -- best to avoid. I also check the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center herbs and supplements database. https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/diagnosis-tre...

I recently had my first bone density X-ray and it showed mild case of osteo. I was not ready to hear this because I’m used to being that strong energetic firefighter. So not ready for these changes but I again have accepted it and willing to make a change to reduce it. I’m already on prescribe bit D. So I need to intake calcium intake Maybe that’s why my knee hasn’t healed properly from knee replacement. Turmeric has always been a main spice for us.
