Dx 2018. Last Oct 2021 had a compression fracture.
At this point need to make decisions about med for bone density.
One mentioned by endocrinologist was a shot once a year.
Or pills taken once a month or week.
The risk are disturbing yet I am now a hunchback from spine compression and lost about 2 inches. Anyone have have experience with once a year shot? TY

@A MyBCTeam Member: I do an infusion every 6 months (Zometa). So far so good - my bones have actually improved from osteopenia back to normal. For a couple of days after the infusion I had some achiness and crazy chills, but then was fine. No other issues. I have my next infusion next week.

I have osteoporosis in my left arm and doctor wants me to get a reclast infusion one a year for 3 years. Im too afraid after reading all the side affects. She keeps pushing it saying I may not have severe side affects but with my luck I probabky would.

I have osteopenia. Was diagnosed before cancer. I work out every day with strength training because I know the Exemestane just makes osteoporosis more of a probability. 7 years to date, 2 since chemo, radiation, herceptin and start of Exemestane. So far, so good ๐ŸคžFor me, the workouts are a necessity for another reason... they erase the gloomy thoughts and make me feel strong and in control. It is the only control I seem to have these days! My physical therapist is astounded by fact that I did this and PT all the way through chemo. It was what, along with PT and Massage Therapy, kept me going to get through it. I will fight osteoporosis as hard as I can as long as I can, but when I am offered anything other than calcium, I will take it happily. It will keep me on my Total Gym. There is not a med I have ever taken that did not give me damn side effects, but I will try them at least. Good luck and here's hoping it is smooth traveling for you from now on!

I know after fracture of spine I have to do something . I agree I also donโ€™t want a bunch of side effects. So tired of decisions. Trying to figure who to believe. Last oncologist really messed up re dexa scan. Here I am like a hunchback freak. With no breast lol one big side show.
