Tamoxifen
I'm currently on estamestane my oncologist wants me to switch to tamoxifen I have very few side effects so very nervous about switching. She wants me to switch due to bone loss what side effects should I expect and should I switch
@A MyBCTeam Member: I'm on Exemestane and do a zometa infusion every 6 months for bone density loss. I was in osteopenia before the first one and after one round my bones are normal again. I have the second round today. If the exemestane is working for you I wouldn't switch, I would just do something to help the bones. Bone loss will happen regardless of what hormone blocker you're on because blocking estrogen is what causes the bone loss, and that's what all of those drugs do - just in different ways. Talk to your doc again. 💕
@A MyBCTeam Member: all hormone blockers have the potential to affect the bones because all of them block estrogen, just in different ways. So I'm not sure why they would have told you that 😔
TY I have switched oncologist.
Also he missed my dexa scan changed. I found out I had osteoporosis when I had compression fx of spine. Not fun. Now waiting to get appt for reclast infusion. Very nervous. Lots of questions before I agree.
Are you currently taking any meds to combat bone loss such as Prolia? I use Exemestane and take a prolia shot every 6 months to build bone. I had severe osteoporosis but since i have used prolia now have osteopenia. I had osteoporsis prior to starting estogen blocker. My onco also suggested tamoxifen but my surgeon recommended Exemestane or another AI.
