Need Feedback. Did Anyone Have Family Members Visit During Their Radiation Therapy On A Weekend?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question đź’

How long is one at risk after radiation therapy with lower immune system?

Have you seen family members with children at this time after radiation therapy?

Hi. A little different scenario. Mine was during Covid Also. But YES, I absolutely had people visit but on weekends because my tx was 3 hours away! You see, I have sworn for most of my life that I would never do radiation ! My first weekend was Memorial weekend and and by Saturday night I was packing my bags to go home. My husband called and found out where my head was at and came down Sunday and Monday. He talked me back into fighting this. He even walked me to my radiation appointment. He went home and made a schedule of someone to come down every weekend! I sooooo needed that support! Clear it with your doctor like that was mentioned. Then go for it.🥰

I was OK during my treatments in June/July 2021. So it was during Covid and I took all the precautions they recommended. I really didn’t stop going or doing anything. I was just very cautious and always wore a mask or stayed at least 6 ft from anyone. No hugs or kisses from any visitors I had. 🫶

You should ask your oncologist and radiologist. I was mich mire at risk during chemo. My child was in 1st grade throughtout my treatment— and we didn’t have issues. If anything my immune system seemed stronger aftee chemo, but during radiation.

Had my radiation during Pandemic, had just finished chemo and people were all staying home. Didn't get to see my family unmasked (them and me) for 2 years. Everyone washed hands when they came in the door. But man, it was good to see them! If you are up to it and Dr says no issue -- then enjoy all the folks you care about whenever it is possible. I still wear masks in all public places and I am 3 years out of infusions. Was strong suggestion from all my doctors to continue.

My Rad oncologist told me there was no radiation risk to family members . I had Partial breast targeted radiation.
