Anyone Taking Nerlynx After Completing Herceptin?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I will be done with a year of herceptin. My doctor is now recommending Nerlynx. Has anyone taken this drug for her2 positive. If so, what has been your experience?

I stopped the Herceptin because of the heart scare. I'm looking to just transition to some or a medication. I was told about this because it has lesser side effects that I think I can tolerate. However, the research and decision is causing me to just say forget it.

Thank you for sharing ! So many decisions. I’ve been doing my research and the side effects are awful, particularly the diarrhea associated with this medication.

I turned it down. Mine was HER2+, Stage 2a, Grade 3- no nodes involved, and I did the unilateral mastectomy to get rid of the 2.7 cm tumor. My risk of recurrence within 5 years was only 2-3%, and I was still a few years away from retirement from the school system. Not a good place for dealing with the most common side effect- chronic diarrhea, especially when I am currently enjoying a lengthy remission from Crohn's. I did not feel it was worth the chance of triggering the Crohns, as I already had to have a bowel resection because of it. The oncologist agreed, and said we could consider it as a later option if bc showed up again.

I hope others chime in as well, keeping you in prayers while you navigate through all the info and make the best decisions for you. Hugs!
