Anyone Gone The Medicine Route Instead Of Oophorectomy?
Anyone gone the medicine route instead of oophorectomy? Have been on Zoladex/Letrozole for about 10 months and am leaning toward getting the surgery (robotic full hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy) eventually but would love to hear from anyone who has gone the medicine route long term instead and hear what their experiences have been. If I go the medicine route the plan would be Zoladex/Letrozole for 5 years followed by 5 years of Tamoxifen, has anyone done this specific medicine plan⦠read more
@A MyBCTeam Member: I've been just fine on the Exemestane. Had some small joint stiffness/pain for the first couple of months, then it went away and I've been fine ever since ππ
P.s didn't do Letrozole but did Tamoxifen first - after I started the Zoladex I was switched to the A.I (Exemestane) and have been on it ever since (3+ years).
Interesting that they would start you on an A.I and then switch you to Tamoxifen - usually its the other way around and you do Tamoxifen while you're pre-menopausal and the A.I. when you're post menopausal...π€
I was on Zoladex for about a year and a half - I had no issues on it but it was just a pain in the ass going every month. Had my oophorectomy - don't feel any different and I'm glad to be done with the shots π
@A MyBCTeam Member - I am so glad to hear of your experience with Exemestane. I will start that in August (my 3rd try at a pill). I have had such horrible side effects with Anastozole & Letrozole - severe debilitating bone pain & then hives - as well as joint pain, painful hot flashes ,& cold flashes & many others. I would love to tolerate something more than a month. I am off as much as on these pills. Thank you!

Glad to hear you don't feel any worse after the surgery! If I go ahead with the surgery I will be SO glad to be done with those darn shots too! Ouch! I was going to start Tamoxifen first but my doc said the ovary suppression (Zoladex) with an AI (Letrozole) worked better so he instead is having me do that for 5 years and only if I don't get the surgery by then would I switch to Tamoxifen for the remaining 5 years assuming I came out of the medical menopause Zoladex has put me in. Otherwise if I do get the surgery, he'll keep me on the AI (Letrozole) for the 10 years. :) How's Exemstane treating you?
