Is Anyone Who Has NOT Been Diagnosed As Metastatic Taking Verenzio (Abemaciclib) As Part Of Their Long Term Medication?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Dallas, TX

I have IDC, ER+, HERS- Stage IIb and have NOT been diagnosed as metatstatic. I have been prescribed an aromatase inhibitor for a minimum of 5 years AND Verenzio for 2 years. I've recently started the aromatase inhibotor, Letrozole and am scheduled to begin Vernezio after I complete radiation - next week. What has been your experience with Verenzio. The list of side effects sounds like chemo all over again.

Verzenio is often used for those that are hormone positive, had Neo adjuvant chemo, and did not get complete pathological response. It is taken for 2 years.

Adding my information in case it helps others decide. I have been on it for 15 months. Started at 50 mg twice a day, went to 100 twice a day and couldn’t tolerate it, so I am back down to 50 twice a day. The side effects are noticeable, but not severe for me. I am extremely grateful to be able to take this drug as stage 2b with high KI 67 and high oncotypeDX score. I started anastrozole after lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, and a month later I started Verzenio.

Just completed week 41 of Verzenio. Biggest issue for me was fatigue. We stepped down the dose from 150 mg to 100 mg. I'm feeling great - like I did before diagnosis. There were many, many days when I did not think I would ever feel like myself again. GRATEFUL every day.

Wishing you well.

I have been on Verzenio 200mg twice a dayfor 4 weeks now. I had to have them decrease the dosage to 150mg twice a day & that seems to be better. Diarrhea & fatigue are real with this medication! I am also on Letrozole.
I am ER+ HER- Stage IIIa. I've done chemo, complete right mastectomy & am currently going through radiation. Today was session 8 of 33.

I started at 150mg 2x a day November 2023. I Down-dosed to 100mg last July and found it well tolerated. Fatigue was the symptom I didn't want to live with if the down-dose was still considered effect.

ER+ HERS-, HIGH KI 67 and high Oncotype, neoadjuvant chemo, double mastectomy and radiation.
