Breast cancer is not a virus! So I don’t understand these articles about a vaccine!!! Can someone explain?

In the case of breast cancer, the vaccines work by "generat[ing] a strong immune response to a key tumor protein." This article goes over a vaccine for HER2+ breast cancer. It's pretty exciting. The vaccine produces a "cytotoxic — or cell-killing" response therefore producing immunity to HER2+ cancer. It's really pretty amazing! https://newsroom.uw.edu/news/breast-cancer-vacc...

I think they can certainly tailor it. The phase 1 and now 2 trials seem to suggest that the vaccines work and have little to no side effects. While breast cancer is scary, these new discoveries in terms of vaccines are pretty amazing. Here's another article about HER2+ vaccines (this is what I have so I know more about it). So far, their side effects seem minimal (especially if we consider all of the treatment required for breast cancer currently-- chemo, targeted therapy, surgery and radiation-- I'm having it all as I am stage IIIa with nodal involvement). From the article, they gave the vaccine to "66 patients with stage III or IV HER2-positive breast cancer. Prior to vaccination, all patients had been effectively cured of cancer through treatment with chemotherapy drugs like Trastuzumab. Although patients were technically cancer-free at this pre-vaccine stage, HER2-positive breast cancers are aggressive with a high probability of recurrence and metastasis. But this is where the vaccine steps in! The patients were given one of three monthly doses of this DNA vaccine over a 3-month period. Vaccines were found to be very safe with extremely mild adverse effects, similar to the aches and chills one might experience from COVID-19 or flu vaccines- a walk in the park compared to current, more toxic, cancer treatments." And the outcomes have been very promising with the people receiving the vaccine remaining cancer free. https://www.fredhutch.org/en/news/spotlight/202...

I am HER 2 + and hope this vaccine will help for all of with HER 2 and more vaccines for everyone else who’s been diagnosed with breast cancer.
I pray for us all that we are cancer free and healthy.

Prevention is always worth a pound of cure. If anyone can create a vaccine to attack and kill that one rogue microscopic cell before it replicates to become the dreaded lump just think how great it would be to eliminate the chemo, radiation, and loss of breasts for millions of women. Cancer occurs when your immune system fell asleep on the job, or did not recognize that a rogue cell in disguise has gone undetected. If a vaccine is developed to assist the body's natural defenses, well..that would be a long awaited miracle.
