Tamoxifin

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi ladies. I have been on tamoxifin for about a month. No idea if this is all related but boy am I struggling. Emotionally- I cry non stop. The drop of a dime I’m balling. Literally can’t hold it together. Physically- terrible hot flashes, night sweats waking up in puddles of sweats and my GI tract all day long for the past three weeks is awful. Anyone else experience any of this?

Been reading a lot of complaints lately about Tamoxifen and I think a whole line of new drugs to need to replace all this crap.

I met with medical oncology today. I am going to stop the tamoxifin. He said at least in my case it’s only about a 5% difference in affecting my recurrence rate if I’m on it. The physical affects I could have managed but the depression and brain fog I can’t handle. I’m Lready on a high dose of pristiq (which is like the newer Effexor).

@A MyBCTeam Member your issue might be that Tamoxifen actually caused dryness in your vagina that enabled bacteria to enter. Germs and bacteria are everywhere and some of these drugs dry up normal vaginal secretions that ordinarily would fight against harmful bacteria and germs

@A MyBCTeam Member, I took only 8 days of it and stopped. I go to the oncologist today to see what he has to say. When I started having a vaginal discharge after taking them and felt like a UTI, that was it for me.

I’ve been on Tamoxifen for two years now- the hot flashes/ nights sweats were the absolute worst- made me tired because they interrupted sleep- I started taking Vitamin E- I had tried a couple different brands and they didn’t work- my mom suggested Lindberg ( you can get it on Pipping Rock website) and what a difference! Hot flashes are gone! I would have assumed that maybe they had stopped on their own but when I had to stop taking Vit E for reconstructive surgery they came back😬- I haven’t had any GI problems- but maybe try a probiotic?
