I had a mammogram each year after I had breast cancer on my left side and year six I had a different, more aggressive cancer on right side. Both were estrogen positive. I would recommend yearly mammograms.

I'm 9 years post-surgery this Christmas, 8 years post chemo & radiation. It's been annual mammograms for me. My oncologist is having me do gene testing in case I have any markers. If yes, she'll switch me to every six months and alternate mammogram with ultrasound. There is nothing that would convince me that waiting longer in between screening is good enough. I've seen too many women die from this cancer to let down my guard. I think this may be an option for women who haven't already had cancer, but not for those of us who have had it.

Plus, with ILC it could come back in the other breast as that is why you need the mammograms.

The article was too broad and did not take into consideration ithat the 2nd breast could develop cancer for some cancers.

But as mentioned in the other posts about scans, reoccurrence happens at all ages and how are women supposed to know if mets didn't happen outside of the Breast?
