I Have Seen A Lot Of Women Questioning The Need For Mammograms After A Certain Age Or The Need For One Every Two Years. Opinions?

My mother was told when she turned 90 in Oct. 2022 that she didn't need anymore mammograms. It had already been scheduled so she got it. It showed a suspicious area so they did an ultrasound. Grade 2 ILC. Her doctor was distraught when he got the biopsy report because he had told her she no longer needed the mammogram. I was diagnosed with IDC on May 20. You can bet we will continue to get our scans every year regardless of age, even though Medicare only pays for one every two years.

I am horrified by this subject. I have a dear friend who is 92 and dying from breast cancer because she stopped having mammograms at age 70. Our risk increases with age not the other way around. I intend to keep having mammogram as long as I'm alive.

Some of us have metastatic disease and are scanned frequently. That is why my doctor did not see the need for mammograms or paps. That is certainly not true for everyone.

I’m scheduled for my annual mammogram on 8/23. I’d get one every 6 months if insurance would cover it.

Nancy145 Your mother is a lucky person and not destined to have breast cancer. We are the “One in eight” unfortunate ones😡

With so many young women getting breast cancer I think there shouldn’t even be an age requirement young or old. It should be a woman’s choice if and when she wants to get one
