I'm still on the fence about the prosthetic. I'm very comfortable being flat. I may get them for when we have somewhere dressy to go .

It's great that you're seeking support and experiences from others who have been through similar situations. Here are some points from the knowledge base that might be helpful:

- Going Flat: Many women are embracing the choice to go flat after a mastectomy. This decision can be influenced by personal preferences, comfort, and the desire to avoid additional surgeries.

- Prophylactic Mastectomy: Some individuals with a strong family history of breast cancer or genetic mutations (like BRCA1 or BRCA2) opt for a prophylactic mastectomy to reduce their risk. This procedure can lower the risk of developing breast cancer by at least 95% in women with BRCA mutations and up to 90% in those with a family history.

- Support Networks: Platforms like MyBCTeam offer a space where over 65,000 members share their stories, ask questions, and provide advice. Engaging with such communities can provide valuable insights and support.

Feel free to share your experiences or ask for advice on MyBCTeam to connect with others who understand life with breast cancer.

I am still weighing the pros and cons of reconstruction and am not certain if the extended and/or multiple surgeries are what I want right now. I am curious - what prompted the prophylactic mastectomy? I am considering it down the road due to strong family history of female cancers even though the genetic testing was not positive for the traditional BRACA 1 or 2 genes and my perceived convenience of wearing prosthetics as I choose but not feeling as if I need to do so on a daily basis.

I do have a weighted prosthetic and prior to radiation it worked well. I am still recovering from the radiation treatment so wear it inconsistently at present. I think my issue is more one of adjustment to the new me. Many thanks for your thoughtful response.
