Lobular Breast Cancer Comes Into The Research Spotlight. My
In 2016, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation declared it an “understudied” cancer and helped convene the first International Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer Symposium in Pittsburgh. In December 2017, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium held a mini-symposium packed with new genomic and clinical findings that posed the question: “Is lobular breast cancer a different disease?”
Hi, Lexie2. Was the lower dose your choice? In any case, please don't second guess yourself. It serves no purpose. I've said many times on this sight 'you made the right decision at the time'.
Hi, all...following this thread, I suppose I should be a little more on top of my dx. I have three different types of cancer in my left breast and the dx reads like a book. As for my treatment plan, which I had some say in, I have stayed on top of that pretty well. Bc mammoprint came back inconclusive, a more aggressive approach was taken.
I had IDC in 2019 and now I have ILC (lobular). About 10% of breast cancers are lobular. Almost all research is ductal. They are very different.
Hi Tammy - Thanks for your reply. I to have no history of Breast Cancer in family. I had PCOS so unfortunately could not have children. I thought I had enough to contend with. However this is a whole new ball game. I was only on the pill for a matter of a few months in my 20s. I cannot blame years of that. But I’m eternally grateful to the eagle eyed persistence of the radiographer. The scan and biopsy for right had side was pretty unpleasant. I’m so glad they found it. I could be sitting here in complete ignorance of the second cancer working away.
I’m grateful and positive. Take care - all good wishes.
The description of my cancer in my surgical notes is "Invasive ductal carcinoma, moderately differentiated with
lobular growth pattern at the left 11:00 position, 4 cm from the nipple."
That was the only time I recall seeing or hearing "lobular" during my diagnosis and treatment. I thought it was a descriptive term the same as "ER receptive." Am surprised that it might be a different cancer altogether and will follow discussion here.
