Do You Need Hormonal Therapy If You Have DCIS With Low Hormone Receptors?

Are you HR/PR positive? If so, then you will probably be prescribed a hormone blocker. Whether you choose to take it is up to you. This is something you should discuss carefully with your oncologist. Also, what grade and stage is your cancer? Do you know your Oncotype score? All of these factors should be taken into consideration when making a decision. For me, personally, I just wasn't willing to take a chance on the cancer returning. My friend refused to take the meds and her cancer was back in less than two years. Then she needed a mastectomy instead of another lumpectomy and had a long course of radiation. She still refuses the meds and is just waiting for the cancer to come back and kill her. I may be 79 but I'm not ready for that. I still have a lot of living to do but it is a personal choice. If you are afraid of the side effects not everyone has them. I'm only having mild hot flashes a few times a day and some dry mouth in the morning. I take my meds at night. More than 50% of women have few if any side effects. I personally would start them and then see what happens. You may be surprised.

I thought for DCIS, with a mastectomy, hormone blockers are not needed. Lumpectomy, yes.

Thank you for your reply, I have DCIS which is considered as stage 0, I had a mastectomy 2.5 months ago. I’m positive for both hormones but it’s low. So my dr recommend to not having any hormones treatment. I’m wondering if anyone is the same as my case
